Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Tuesday on the littoral states of the Caspian Sea to cooperate towards regional and global peace. "The cooperation of our five countries will not only benefit our own region's but also global peace," Ahmadinejad told the opening ceremony of the summit in the Iranian capital - Tehran. Ahmadinejad stressed the need to find a suitable framework to continue the peaceful co-existence from which all sides would benefit. The Iranian leader's speech was followed by speeches by heads of states of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan who also gathered at the summit. The summit is another effort to find a legal status for the Caspian Sea since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, news agency DPA reported. The five presidents, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, plan to hold a press conference later Tuesday.
