The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has started transmission of Short Messages Service (SMS) through its daily bulletins around the clock. Minister of culture and information Iyad Ameen Madani said this new service constitutes a step on the path of development and diversification. He noted that SPA, like other news agencies, used earlier to address through audio-visual means, and added 'but for the time being it addresses directly through various channels of telecommunications notably the internet. Through this new service of SMS, SPA will provide its subscribers with coverage of various urgent and important political, economic, cultural, sports and social events, he noted. Reiterating the keenness of SPA on developing its transmission means, Madani said it has recently linked the local media means with its services through the developed digital network of VPN-IP. He added that SPA is currently working to link its internal offices with the headquarters in Riyadh through the same digital network which is of a high efficiency.
