Tectonic earthquakes jolted Lampung and Jambi Provinces, on Sumatra Island, respectively at 06.56 am and 07.35 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Saturday, ANTARA reported. The earthquake hitting Lampung measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, while the earthquake jolting Jambi was 4.5 on the Richter scale, Coordinator of the Bengkulu Meteorological and Geophysics Office Adjat Sudrajat said here on Saturday. The epicenter of Lampung`s earthquake was located at 7.26 degrees southern latitude and 103.01 degrees eastern longitude, around 251 km southwest of Krui, West Lampung, at a depth of 30 km, he said. In Jambi Province, the earthquake`s epicenter was located at 2.25 degrees southern latitude, and 101.93 degrees eastern longitude, around 42 km southwest of Bangko, at a depth of 169 km, he said. Indonesia sits on the seismically active "Pacific Ring of Fire" and experiences frequent earthquakes as well as tsunamis triggered by underwater earthquakes.
