A Saudi relief delegation, led by Ibrahim Al-Darweesh, today visited the Nouakchott-based headquarters of Mauritania's Social Protection and Food Security Commission. The delegation was received by Commissioner Jeddou Wild Abdulrahman and Assistant Commissioner Hawa Jibreel Bah. At the outset of the visit, the head of the Saudi relief delegation briefed the Commission's senior officials on the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in support of and assistance for the needy in Mauritania and other countries of the world. He said the Kingdom has in the past weeks provided humanitarian assistance for Sudan and Bangladesh in addition to a grand wroth $90 million to each of the Sudan, Mauritania and Bangladesh. In 2006 and 2007, the Kingdom also provided $13 million for African Coast countries and $11 million for African Horn countries. Al-Darweesh expressed thanks to and appreciation of the government of Mauritania for the cooperation rendered to the Saudi relief delegation to deliver the assistance to the needy as soon as possible. On his part, the Commissioner of the Social Protection and Food Security Commission Jeddou Wild Abdulrahman also extended thanks to and appreciation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, for the assistance provided to flood-stricken people in Mauritania, noting that this is yet another proof of the distinguished ties between the two sisterly countries. He noted that Al-Tinaitan city has inflicted great damages due to heavy rains and floods. The city still needs more support and assistance to overcome the problem, he said, adding that the city is considered a commercial link point for many cities and areas in the country and this disaster has blocked the commercial movement in the region which had its negative impact on the living of the inhabitants of the city and neighboring cities. The delegation was accompanied in this visit by the Saudi Charge d'Affaires to Mauritania Hamad Al-Aqeel.
