At least eight people were killed and more than 50 injured in a bus accident in central Nepal, officials said today. Police said an overcrowded bus, plunged more than 50 feet off the mountain highway at a place called Khanigaon in Nuwakot district, about 80 kilometres north of the capital Kathmandu this afternoon. The crash killed eight people instantly and injured 55 others. The condition of several of the injured was said to be serious. Police said they did not immediately know the cause of the accident but suspected the driver lost control of the bus on a sharp bend because of overcrowding. The bus was carrying more than 70 people, double its original capacity. -- SPA
