A speeding bus drove off a mountainous highway in Nepal on Sunday, killing at least eight people and injuring 14 others, an official said, according to AP. The bus plummeted about 300 meters (1,000 feet) down the mountain near Bhatkada village, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) west of the capital Katmandu. The driver apparently lost control on a sharp turn, said Narayan Timalsina, an official in the area. The highway was slippery after days of continuous rain, he said. The injured were transported to hospitals in the area and two were in critical condition. Road accidents are common during the annual monsoon when poorly maintained mountain passes are especially slick.
