At least nine children drowned Tuesday in a river in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh while trying to save one among them who accidentally fallen in, a news report said. Police told the PTI news agency that bodies of nine children between the ages of eight and 18 were fished out of the Yamuna river near Bairathi village, 200 kilometres south of state capital Lucknow. The report said divers were searching for two other missing children, dpa reported. Officials said the children - part of a group which had come to attend wedding celebrations - had been playing football on the bank when a young child fell into the river.
