A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier north of Baghdad, the military said Sunday. The military said the soldier died of injuries sustained when the convoy in which he was traveling was struck by the explosion at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday near Taji, which is 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the capital and home to a major U.S. air base. The soldier's name was withheld pending notification of relatives. At least 2,888 members of the U.S. military have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
