Security forces killed two suspected rebels during a shootout in the Indian portion of Kashmir on Tuesday, police said. A joint army and police force raided the mountainous village of Khari after receiving a tip that the gunmen were there, said Basant Rath, local superintendent of police. Khari is some 200 kilometers (125 miles) north of Jammu, the winter capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir State. The joint force suffered no casualties, Rath was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
