Gunmen burst into the home of a former rebel in Jammu-Kashmir on Wednesday, killing his brother and wife, while a villager was fatally shot in crossfire during a gun battle between rebels and paramilitary soldiers, police said. The unidentified villager was killed in Dooru, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of the Indian-controlled portion of Jammu-Kashmir, as rebels and soldiers fired at each other, said a police officer on condition of anonymity. He gave no further details.
