A moderate earthquake with magnitude 4.7 jolted the Philippines before dawn on Sunday, but there were no casualties or damages, DPA QUOTED OFFICIAL SOURCES AS SAYING. The tremor, which struck at 2:27 a.m., was the latest in a series of quakes that rocked the Philippines since late Friday. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake's epicentre was located north-west of Boac town in the central province of Marinduque. The institute said the tremblor was felt in the provinces of Batangas, Quezon and Oriental Mindoro, all south of Manila, at intensities two and three. From late Friday through Saturday morning, four moderate earthquakes with magnitudes 4.7, 5.2, 3.7 anbd 4.7 also jolted the same provinces and Manila. The Philippines, which is part of the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," is hit by about 10 earthquakes every day, but only a few are actually felt. The worst earthquake that struck the country was in 1990 when a magnitude 7.7 tremor killed nearly 2,000 people in the northern island of Luzon.
