Saudi Aramco President & CEO Abdullah S. Jum'ah on Saturday presented the President's Award for Environmental Stewardship to four Saudi Aramco organizations that met the challenging environmental requirements for this recognition. The recipients of this year's award represented a variety of Saudi Aramco's operational areas, including Abqaiq Plants, Yanbu' Refinery, Health Care Development Organization, and Northern Area Oil Drilling, according to a report carried today by Saudi Aramco web-site. These Saudi Aramco organizations not only met the company's high expectations for environmental protection, but showed additional effort and progress in each of four areas used to judge potential award recipients: -- environmental performance -- compliance -- level of environmental awareness and training efforts -- environmental initiatives The goal of the President's Award for Environmental Stewardship is to promote excellence in environmental performance by establishing positive role models for facilities, and recognizing efforts to improve environmental stewardship. "This award will contribute to a shift in attitude from limited environmental compliance to the broader objective of continually improving environmental performance," said Hesham Musaiid, manager of Saudi Aramco's Environmental Protection Department. "Focusing on environmental performance opens up the way to minimizing the footprint of our operations on the environment," Musaiid added. Saudi Aramco has a robust environmental protection policy, and a vital Environmental Protection Department that monitors the environmental performance of company operations. Saudi Aramco operates sophisticated air and water monitoring systems, has long-standing waste management and recycling policies, and maintains an advanced marine protection and oil-spill response capability. "Environmental accountability today stands as one of the most important measures by which a company is regarded," Jum'ah said. "If an organization is not active in safeguarding the Earth's natural resources, its best efforts in all other business areas are diminished."
