Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) S-Chem facility has been awarded the 2008 First Place Award for Environmental Performance by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Royal Commission, the company said on Tuesday. This is the second year in a row the facility has received the first place honor. The award is presented annually to companies that demonstrate progressive environmental policy and sustainable development efforts within the Kingdom. It honors those in the industry committed to the cause of environmental stewardship, and whose efforts exceed Royal Commission regulations. “This honor is a result of our leadership and of each employee's drive to achieve outstanding safety performance,” said Elija Andjelich, president of S-Chem. “The award reflects our company's commitment to environmental awareness and performance, and we at S-Chem are proud to be part of such an organization.” S-Chem has consistently demonstrated outstanding environmental awareness, having been additionally awarded the Royal Commission's second place and third place awards in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Each year, the Royal Commission evaluates the performance of industries within the industrial cities, based on five basic criteria: compliance, cooperation, environmental issues, initiatives and environmental team efforts. Industrial facilities located in the Jubail and Yanbu Industrial Areas are governed by environmental regulations set by the Kingdom's Royal Commission.
