Telling young people to be more aware of their environment and preserving the world eco-system will be the united message of all organizations, private and public during the whole year. This was emphasized during the recently concluded World Environment Day, which was marked at Saudi Aramco in Eastern Province, schools and establishments in Jeddah and Riyadh, at Batelco in Bahrain, and in other cities in the Gulf region. In Eastern Province, the celebration was led by Dammam Municipal Mayor Daifallah Al-Otaibi and Saudi Aramco executive vice president Khaled Faleh. The theme of this year's World Environment event was “Help Protect the Environment.” The event showcased energy and water conservation methods, recycling program and the environmental education program initiated by Aramco's Environmental Protection Department for school children across the Kingdom. Various departments and civic organizations also displayed and shared their views on how to make young people fully aware of their responsibilities in safeguarding the environment. Anti- Smoking Charitable Association, for example, emphasized that non-smoking young people are contributing to the protection of the environment and the eco-system. Saudi Aramco President and CEO, Abdallah S. Jum'ah, in a statement, said “environmental accountability today stands as one of the most important measures by which a company is regarded. If an organization is not active in safeguarding the Earth's natural resources, its best efforts in all other business areas are diminished. Indeed, the very perception of corporate attitudes toward environmental protection carries significant weight in the public's trust of that company.” World Environment Day has become more popular in recent years and has come to be observed in schools throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on June 5, with lectures and seminars emphasizing the urgent need for conserving the environment. The Municipality of Dammam also plans to manage agricultural wastes and recycle them. It is also considering proposals to recycle tires, according to Al-Otaibi. __
