An exhibition on environmental awareness organized by Saudi Aramco is being held at the Al-Andalus Mall from June 2-5 on the occasion of World Environment Day on Saturday. A number of public and private sector representatives are participating in the event which is expected to attract over 15,000 visitors of all nationalities over the four days. Nabeel Baeshen, Director of Saudi Aramco Affairs in the Western Province, said the exhibition under the title “Help preserve environmental resources” aims to highlight the company's social responsibility role and its efforts in environmental protection. Siemens Company, along with Aramco, put on a program during the exhibition that its organizers said aimed to create a new generation of more environmentally-conscious people. Rehab Al-Mahmoud, a member of Aramco's Social Responsibility Department, said: “We at Aramco take a lot of interest in the environment. This time Aramco chose Jeddah to showcase its awareness activities”. She said the program focuses on children and features 24 scientific experiments, eight of which highlight air pollution while the rest deal with health, energy and electricity issues. “When students learn the importance of a healthy environment and possess good scientific knowledge, they can contribute a lot for the betterment of the environment,” said Al-Mahmoud. Meanwhile, Mahmoud Al-Moaikli, supervisor of the Sanitary Operation Unit in the Utilities Department of Saudi Aramco, said Aramco considers sewage water treatment to be a significant factor in the health of the environment. He said Aramco uses recycled water that has been treated until ‘phase 3' on green areas which do not contain plants that will be used as food. “Using the ‘phase 3' water saves a lot of clean water and reduces water pollution as the sewage water that would otherwise have been dumped into the sea is being used for irrigation purposes,” he said.
