Seven people were killed in a road accident in India's western Gujarat state on Saturday, a news report said, according to DPA. The accident happened when a speeding truck crashed into a group of persons in the Kutch district some 310 kilometres west of state capital Gandhinagar, the PTI news agency reported. The driver had lost control of the vehicle, the agency said. According to the New Delhi based Institute of Road Traffic Education, India accounts for 13 per cent of road accident fatalities worldwide. The economic losses of these accidents are estimated to be around 11 billion dollars annually. Reckless driving, untrained drivers and poor maintenance of roads and vehicles are among the main reasons behind the number of accidents.
