At least 22 people were killed when their bus fell into a ditch and caught fire in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu, police said Wednesday. The bus went out of control while swerving to avoid a truck late Tuesday, senior police official Jairam said. All 22 victims burned to death, IANS news agency reported. The accident took place about 120 kilometres west of state capital Chennai. One passenger and the bus driver survived. Police took the driver into custody. Over 100,000 people have died annually in India in road accidents since 2007, according to government data quoted by the German Press Agency "DPA".
