Albanian police said Wednesday it had arrested the suspected leader of a heroin smuggling ring, linked to the recent seizure of 93 kilos of the drug in Turkey, DPA reported. The suspect, Rasim Shaqir Shira, allegedly masterminded the foiled attempt to smuggle the narcotics in a truckload of sweets transported by his own company, ATA news agency reported. Following the seizure of the drugs, Turkish police arrested the Albanian truck driver, together with a second Albanian national and a Turk who allegedly helped load the shipment. The report did not specify when and where the raid occurred in Turkey, but it did say that more people were under investigation in connection with the smuggling ring.
