The Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting of Pakistan and Tajikistan will be held from on November 25-27 in Tajikistan to finalize the import of 1000 megawatt power from Tajikistan, an official statement said. A delegation led by Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi will visit Tajikistan to attend JMC. The delegation will include officials of Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), government engineering consultants, NESPAK, and Water & Power Ministry. NESPAK has finalized the feasibility study in this regard. Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for import of 1000 MW power from Tajikistan. Import of 1000 MW power at cheaper rates would provide electricity to the people of far-flung areas of Pakistan, meet the future energy requirements and help eliminate load- shedding in the country, the statement said. NESPAK has informed the Water & Power Ministry that scope of the project is to import 1000 MW from Tajikistan for which suitable transmission line through a feasible route of Rogun (Tajikistan), Wakhan (Afghanistan) and Peshawer-Chitral will have to be constructed along with terminal switchyards, and a switching station at a suitable location. The generation source at Tajikistan will be Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant on Vakhsh river but can be supplemented by other hydro power plants on the same river.
