Two American and British companies have shown interest for $2 billion investment in power generation in Pakistan, Water & Power Minister Liaquat Jatoi says. American company AES is interested in developing and implementing a 1,000 MW project on Thar coal (in Pakistan's Sindh province), which would bring an investment of over $1 billion, the minister told the reporters. Similarly, he said British company Globeleq has also announced to invest $1 billion in Pakistan's power sector. Jatoi said the bidding of the $1.5 billion Neelum Jhelum Hydel Power Project having the capacity to produce 969 MW power will be held by April 30 as the applications for international bidding of the project will be received till April 15. He said that an investment of $3 billion was in the pipeline in the power sector. The government is expecting an investment of $11 billion in energy sector by 2010, he added.
