Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo received here on Friday evening Dr Ahmad Mohammed Ali, the President of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB), and the accompanying delegation. Speaking on the occasion, President Obasanjo expressed happiness over Nigeria's admission to the IDB as a member country, and hoped that the IDB would give top priority to the programs of combating poverty and solution of water problems. He also underscored the importance of the sectors of transport and social services. On his part, Dr Ali expressed the happiness of IDB's member states for the admission of Nigeria in the Bank's membership. The IDB delegation will hold meetings with a number of concerned Nigerian officials to get acquainted with the projects that could be funded by IDB in Nigeria. It is worth mentioning that the Council of the IDB's Governors approved last June the admission of Nigeria to the IDB.
