Three Maoists and two army soldiers were killed in a clash in Dandakharka village in Makwanpur district in southern Nepal, local media reported Friday, according to DPA. Besides the five deaths there were a number of injuries on both sides after the Maoists attacked a security patrol Thursday about 60 kilometres south of the Nepalese capital, the independent Nepali language daily Nepal Samacharpatra reported. The Maoists claimed they recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the government security forces, according to the paper. This is the second reported clash between the security forces and Maoists since the Communist rebels announced a three month unilateral ceasefire at the beginning of September. In the first incident, security forces clashed with and killed six Maoists in the west Nepal district of Palpa. The Maoists claim that the security forces fired on them while they were taking part in a public meeting.
