A South Asian Women Conference will be held in Islamabad on September 7 to help address women problems in region. "The conference aims at knowing forms of violence against women and the measures to curb them", Advisor to Prime Minister on Women Affairs and in-charge Ministry of Women Development Nilofar Bakhtiar told the reporters. She said besides reviewing the existing legislation in this regard the conference will decide what other laws are needed to address women issues. We will also review the legislation creating hurdles in our way to move forward", Ms Bakhtiar said. The advisor said the conference would discuss which social practices and cultural prejudices need solution. The ministers and secretaries of seven South Asian countries have been invited to the conference. Ms Bakhtiar said the conference would help set a trend among the people of the whole South Asian region to share experience of their respective countries. "We want to tell the world that we are not silent spectators over the issue of violence against the women", she said. She added that the world would be apprised about the measures taken in the conference for solution of women problems in the region.
