Elite special forces and interior ministry troops in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan searched Tuesday for two suspected militants who evaded capture after an overnight gunfight, police said. The two men, who were wanted on suspicion of carrying out attacks on police and for other serious crimes, opened fire when police attempted to arrest them late Monday, police spokesman Abdulmanap Musayev said. They later managed to slip away under the cover of darkness.
