More than 300 national and international experts are attending the Saudi Ophthalmology 2005 conference which is scheduled to discuss the latest advances in the treatment of various eye diseases such ocular trauma, no-stitch cataract surgery, refractive surgery and neuro-ophthalmology. A total of 110 scientific papers will be presented by 17 international guest speakers and local delegates during the next two days of the conference. Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Ahmed, President of the Saudi Ophthalmologic Society (SOS), inaugurated the three-day conference yesterday at the King Fahd Cultural Center here. He said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia distributed more than 100,000 information pamphlets and posters on different eye ailments. "These were intended for the education of the general public and were distributed through hospitals and health agencies," he added. Prince Abdul Aziz also inaugurated an exhibition of medical products and services. Thirty top companies are showcasing their products in the exhibition. This year's Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Ahmed Award for Prevention of Blindness was presented to WHO's Coordinator for Prevention of Blindness and Deafness Dr. Serge Resnikoff and SOS Shield for Ophthalmology was given to Dr. Abdul Razak Al-Saleh, the first Saudi ophthalmologist, according to a report published today by Arab News.
