Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital (DSFH) in Jeddah is hosting a two-day International Refractive Surgery Conference which started on Saturday, to discuss the latest vision-related topics. Eleven international ophthalmologists, including renowned Kingdom specialists, are attending the event. “Almost 70 percent of the world's population suffers from eye sight problems”, said Dr. Mazen Fakeeh, director general at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital. “The conference will tackle the most recent treatments of the refraction of the eye including farsightedness - nearsightedness - astigmatism and the recent developments in third generation lasers which has become one of the most common solutions in the world to correct eye-sights problems.” Dr. Magdy Khalaf, consultant and head of ophthalmology department at DSFH, said: “With technological advancements and due to their safety, these treatments are now widely used. The conference will address a number of scientific topics such as the decision tree in refractive surgery, third generation lasers, presbyopia correction, customized Lasik, and the use of Lasik in children population.” Keynote speakers include professor Ahmed Barada from Al-Azhar University, professor Osama Ibrahim from Alexandria University, Professor Mahmoud Ismail from the University of Alicante, Spain, and professor Khaled Abdul Jalil, a fellow from University of Munich, Germany.
