Two German nationals were killed on Sunday when their seaplane crashed near a popular beach resort in the Philippines, the air force said. The victims were identified as Peter Borchers, who was the plane's pilot, and Andreas Biesenbach. The air force said the ill-fated plane crashed near the beach of a resort in Puerto Galera, 150 kilometers south of Manila, a popular tourist destination. "Divers in the area immediately responded and tried to get the two persons from the seaplane as it sank off the beach area," said air-force spokesman Colonel Restituto Padilla. "However, they were too late," he added. "Borchers and Biesenbach were already dead when the divers reached them." Padilla said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined. There was also no additional information on the victims.
