Philippine police say 12 people died when a ferry sank as it headed for a resort town south of Manila. Chief Superintendent Luisito Palmera says the boat, a large motorized outrigger, capsized Saturday when one of its outriggers broke on its journey to Puerto Galera on Mindoro Island, about 85 miles (135 kilometers) south of Manila. The coast guard in Manila says there were 57 survivors, including five crew members. There were no immediate reports of foreigners among the passengers, according to a report of Associated Press. Puerto Galera in Mindoro Oriental province is a popular beach resort town.
