Published in Saudi Press Agency on 16 - 11 - 2021

Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah and Executive Director of the World Food Program David Beasley yesterday signed two agreements between KSrelief and WFP on the sidelines of the meeting of the second ordinary session of the WFP Executive Board that was held yesterday in Rome.
The first agreement aims at supporting Syrian refugees in refugee camps in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and is expected to benefit 112,000 individuals, while the second agreement targets a nutritional support project for children in Pakistan and will benefit 66,414 individuals.
Under the first agreement, KSrelief will offer a grant to WFP to meet the nutritional need of Syrian refugees in Azraq Camp in Zarqa Governorate, Zaatari Camp in Mafraq Governorate, and King Abdullah Parks Camp in Irbid Governorate through distributing monthly e-coupons for beneficiaries through BLOCKCHAIN, where it will include food items that beneficiaries will use at shops and bakeries in camps.
The second agreement includes life-saving nutritional support in cases of emergency for children diagnosed with acute malnutrition, and pregnant and nursing women in endangered regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Region and Azad Jammu Kashmir Region in Pakistan, in a bid to increase opportunities to receive treatment foods to guarantee comprehensive nutritional services that can save the lives of children under five years old, pregnant and nursing women in 14 priority regions in Pakistan, enhance the capability of checking up and treating malnutrition in healthcare facilities and at the local community level, increase access to information related to nutrition and public health, and follow safety procedures to ensure safe implementation of treatment nutritional programs in cases of emergency for COVID-19.
In remarks following the signing ceremony, Beasley said that it is impossible to address all problems we face with refugees, especially with vulnerable groups like children and women, noting that the strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is exceptional for its role in helping vulnerable groups in all fields, where the support provided is like a life ring.
The two agreements are part of efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelief, to enhance food security in needy countries around the world.
