Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — Several officials of different UN humanitarian organizations have appreciated Saudi humanitarian efforts, in particular the measures taken by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) to alleviate the suffering of needy people all over the globe.
They lauded the KSrelief for the Yemeni people in various humanitarian fields, appreciating the effective partnership of their organizations with KSrelief.
This came after the KSrelief signed three agreements with the World Food Program, the World Health Organization and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, through virtual meetings, to support the UN plan for the humanitarian response in Yemen for the year 2020, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Saturday.
Executive Director of the World Food Program, David Beasley, thanked the Kingdom for the much-needed support to the Yemeni people in their dire circumstances, terming the agreement between WFP and the KSrelief as a step forward and in the right direction to achieve more work.
Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Ahmed Bin Salem Al-Manzari expressed his happiness over the signing of the joint agreement with the KSrelief to support the health aspect, environmental sanitation projects, the fight against the novel coronavirus and anti-malnutrition projects in Yemen, praising the fruitful cooperation with the KSrelief to support those affected in all over the world, especially Yemen.
The first agreement was signed by the General Supervisor of the KSrelief and Advisor at the Royal Court, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeah and Beasley.
The agreement includes the $138 million contribution of the Kingdom to support the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan in Yemen for 2020, according to which 81,963 metric ton of wheat flour, vegetable oils, legumes, salt, preventive and therapeutic nutritional supplements, wheat and fortified soy mixture, date biscuits and high biscuits will be purchased and distributed. Energy, to be distributed to people suffering from food insecurity in all Yemeni governorates, and 8 million and 900,000 people benefit from it.
Dr. Al-Rabeah and Dr. Al-Manzari signed the second contract that includes covering the health aspect, environmental sanitation projects, combating the emerging corona virus, and anti-malnutrition projects in Yemen, with a total value of $46 million.
The third agreement was signed with the UNHCR. It was concluded between Assistant General Supervisor of the center for operations and programs, Ahmed Bin Ali Al-Beez, while UNHCR representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Ambassador Khaled Khalifa, signed for the commission.
The agreement includes two projects; the first is to support shelter, site management, and the provision of non-food items to displaced families and returnees, and the most vulnerable host communities in Yemen, and the second project to support health response to refugees and displaced persons during the corona pandemic, with a total value of $20 million.
