Two women were killed and another wounded in crossfire Wednesday during a shootout between Indian soldiers and suspected rebels in a bus in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, police said. Also Wednesday, a paramilitary soldier was killed when suspected rebels shot him at close range while he was on patrol in the frontier town of Sopore, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state. In a separate shootout, Farooq Zargar, a leader of the opposition National Conference party, was shot and critically wounded by suspected rebels in Srinagar's Watal Kadal neighborhood, police said.
