A U.S. soldier died of wounds Monday and another was injured in a roadside bomb explosion north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said. The explosion occurred late Sunday during a combat patrol in Samarra, 95 kilometers (60 miles) north of Baghdad, a statement said. The soldiers were evacuated to a multinational forces medical facility for treatment. The wounded soldier was treated for minor injuries and returned to duty. The latest casualty brings to at least 1,324 the number of U.S. troops who have died in Iraq since the beginning of the war in March 2003.
