The Executive Council of the Arab League's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALESCO) approved yesterday the Saudi proposal on means of improving the standard of the Arabic language at all educational stages in the Arab countries. The Executive Council urged the Director General of ALESCO to forge cooperation with the Arab Bureau for Education in the Gulf States (ABECS) for formalizing the project and estimating its financial cost. ALESCO's Executive Council approved allocation of $100,000 for the implementation of the primary stages of the project in cooperation with ABECS. Meanwhile, the Executive Council decided to submit the aforesaid Saudi proposal and another Saudi proposal pertaining to the establishment of an Arab commission for the educational evaluation to the 17th session of ALESCO's general conference, due to be held on Friday in Tunisia. On the other hand, the Executive Council urged the international community to work for ending the presence of foreign troops in Iraq as well as terminating military attacks and stopping inhuman practices that target the Iraqi people. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was represented at the meetings by its permanent representative at ALESCO and member of its Executive Council Abdulaziz Al-Babtain.
