The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), took part in a virtual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), headed by SASO Governor Saad bin Othman Al-Qasabi, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute, members of the board and the General Secretariat senior officials. SASO Deputy Governor Saud bin Rashid Al-Askar headed the Kingdom's delegation to the meeting which discussed a number of important topics and issues dealing with standardization in the Islamic world, most notably the adoption of the matrix of responsibilities of the Institute and the matrix of the jurisdiction of senior officials of the Institute, co-prepared by Saudi Arabian side and Institute's General Secretariat. The meeting also addressed various topics related to the strategic, financial, and technical aspects necessary for the conduct of business at the institute. Emanating from the Kingdom's keenness to enhance its leading regional, Islamic and international role in the standardization sector, and in line with the Kingdom's vision 2030, Saudi Arabia offered to host the next 22nd meeting of the board, the 16th meeting of the general assembly and other meetings set to be held on the sidelines of the events scheduled to take place in the Saudi city of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah in November 2021.
