A governmental committee assigned to follow-up relief assistance to the displaced and refugees in the Sudan's region of Darfur, held a meeting here today under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sweilim, Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Society. During the meeting, they reviewed reports on current and future relief works in the Sudan under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. In a statement following the meeting, Dr. Al-Sweilim lauded the Saudi relief teams performance in the conflict-rattled region, saying that ten cargo planes have already left for Sudan each carrying foodstuffs, medical appliances and ambulance vehicles. In the medical field, he added that Saudi medical centers were established and highly equipped. As many as 3,000 food baskets were distributed over the needy in Darfur in coordination with Sudan's Red Crescent Society and World Food Organization, Al-Sweilim reported. He thanked Saudi local companies for their support for the society.
