Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of intellectual property with the Japanese Patent Office during the meeting of the fourth session of the Saudi-Japanese 2030 Committee held on Wednesday 23 October 2019 in the Japanese capital Tokyo. This Memorandum aims to establish a framework for bilateral cooperation activities, enhance cooperation in respecting intellectual property, raise awareness of IP value, and train and develop human resources in the fields of patents, utility models, industrial designs and trademarks. In implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation, the IP Data Exchange Program and the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program were signed during the fourth bilateral meeting between SAIP and the Japan Patent Office; where this strategic partnership contributes to raising the quality standards of patent examination, accelerating the procedures of registration of Saudi patents in Japan, and attracting Japanese patent applications for registration in Saudi Arabia, which has been increasing since the Kingdom's accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
