Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has stated that the period of protection for patents in the Kingdom is 20 years as of the date of filing the patent application while trademarks to be protected for a period of ten years as of the date of registration and to be renewable. The Authority stated on its website which is saip.gov.sa that the period of protection for the author is permanent with his life and lasts 50 years after his death. It also explained that the certificate of the industrial model and the certificate of graphic designs of the integrated foundations shall be protected as of the date of filing the application for a period of ten years. It added that the protection of varieties of plants shall be for 20 years as of the date of filing the application for plant patent while protection of the patents of trees and vineyards shall be a period of 25 years. The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property aims to regulate, support, develop, sponsor, protect, enforce and upgrade intellectual property in the Kingdom in accordance with the best international practices standards.
