Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen stressed the importance of moderation especially in light of the dangers that threaten the Islamic world due to extremism. This came during his speech to the International Conference on "Values of Moderation in the Texts of the Quran and the Sunnah" organized by the Muslim World League (MWL) in here today and continues until May 29, 2019, and attended by Prince Khalid Al Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Region and Secretary General of MWL Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul-Karim Al-Issa. In his speech, Al-Othaimeen expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, for the patronage of this important international conference which is an extension and continuation of the Kingdom's clear and consistent positions in promoting the values of moderation in the Islamic world. Al-Othaimeen said that "the deviation of the thought of some groups in the Islamic world from the approach of moderation established by the Quran and the Sunnah, is behind the chaos and violence that is afflicting a number of the Organization's countries." The Secretary-General commended the sincere efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to promote the principle of moderation and to purify Islam of extremist ideas, pointing out that the Kingdom has taken serious steps which made the Saudi experience as an example for the Islamic countries to follow, due to its success.
