How TikTok is nurturing Saudi Arabia's STEM scene to support Vision 2030 goals
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 06 - 03 - 2025

More than one billion people from around the world come to TikTok each month to express themselves authentically, be entertained, start and grow a business, or learn a new skill or hobby. STEM-related communities on TikTok have proven to be a massive success, with almost 10 million STEM-themed videos published worldwide in the last three years. From hands-on experiments to coding and engineering tutorials, the platform offers endless opportunities for STEM creators to share their knowledge.
Building on TikTok's role in education and knowledge-sharing, the platform has launched Saudi Arabia's first-ever dedicated STEM feed, providing high-quality, verified content in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This initiative aligns with TikTok's broader mission of fostering a vibrant community where learning thrives, as seen through successful campaigns like #LearnOnTikTok and #BookTok, which have garnered high engagement globally. With 48% of users in Saudi Arabia recognizing TikTok as a platform for knowledge sharing and nearly half agreeing that it helps nurture personal skills and hobbies, the STEM feed serves as an extension of this impact—transforming how science is experienced on TikTok by seamlessly blending entertainment and educational content.
Saudi Arabia is the first country in the MENA region to roll out this innovative feature, showcasing the best Arabic online content related to future-critical fields. The STEM feed aims to inspire the next generation of Saudi thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers by fostering deeper engagement in STEM fields, sparking curiosity, igniting passion for discovery, and encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. Featuring a diverse range of creators, educators, and STEM enthusiasts, including @ana.ostori, @qadrat_rawan, @abdullah_yw, and @mechatrook, it opens a whole new world of knowledge to the Kingdom's TikTok users, empowering young minds to unlock their full potential and drive progress.
When choosing what will appear on the STEM feed, TikTok focuses on content created by respected experts in their fields that is not only informative and verified but also appealing and engaging. For Saudi Arabia, the platform targets content that is relevant to the Kingdom's development goals in line with its ambitious Vision 2030, such as advancing digital transformation and building a thriving knowledge-based economy where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. By making educational content engaging and accessible, from mental well-being discussions to academic readiness programs, the STEM feed fuels curiosity, bridges knowledge gaps, and ensures TikTok remains a safe and inclusive space for learning and discovery.
The STEM feed is regionally optimized in collaboration with local partners, such as Majarra, a leading provider of high-quality, useful, and credible Arabic content online, to ensure it meets the highest standards of scientific accuracy. As part of its long-term vision, TikTok plans to cultivate additional partnerships with top educational platforms, expanding the feed's offerings and enhancing its impact on STEM education in the region. To maintain the quality and integrity of the STEM feed, all its content is carefully reviewed and vetted for accuracy and appropriateness by TikTok's teams in collaboration with Common Sense Networks and Poynter.
By blending education and entertainment, the STEM feed is poised to play a key role in promoting innovation, advancing educational development in the region, and equipping young people in Saudi Arabia with the tools they need to successfully navigate the future.
