Dollar mixed, gold up

The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Monday morning. Gold
rose.
The euro was quoted at US$1.2342, down from US$1.2353 late
Friday.

The British pound was quoted at US$1.8431, up from
US$1.8418.
Gold dealers in London fixed a recommended price of
US$399.30 bid per troy ounce at midmorning, up from
US$398.30 late Friday.
In Zurich the bid price was US$399.13, up from US$397.45.
Gold rose US$6.60 an ounce in Hong Kong to US$399.95.
Silver opened in London at US$6.70 bid per troy ounce, up
from US$6.60.
