The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has participated in the organizational session of "The Global Pact for the Environment" held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 5 to 7 September 2018. The Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Khalid Manzalawi, delivered the Kingdom's speech on this occasion, in which he stressed the importance of this preparatory session, which comes within a series of negotiating sessions and seeks to address current gaps in international environmental law. He said that "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as an active member of the international system, shares the international community its aspirations for sustainable development and supports international efforts to preserve the environment and it is one of the signatory countries on the international conventions aimed at preserving the environment, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol."
