Al-Naimi : The Kingdom is committed to improving energy efficiency, utilization of renewable energy and carbon sequestration to confront climate change
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to improving energy efficiency, recognizing the importance of reducing emissions as a way to combat climate change and support sustainable development programs. This came in a speech of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi, delivered in a high-level meeting of the Conference of the Parties of United Nations Framework Convention yesterday on climate change (twenty-first session), held in the French capital, Paris. The meeting was attended by ministers and heads of delegations participating in the Conference and meeting of multi-lateral parties on Kyoto Protocol. Al-Naimi said : "The Kingdom is committed to improving energy efficiency, the use of solar and wind energy, sequestrating and storing carbon, especially for use in improving oil extraction, and the transition from liquid fuel to gas, and promotion of research and development in the field of clean energy''. In this context, Al-Naimi called for adopting and approving policies of reduction of emissions that do not bias against any source of energy sources, and looking at these sources, as complementary, and not substitutes, for each other in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development for all. The Minister reiterated the Kingdom's readiness to participate effectively in support and application of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and in this context, the Kingdom has submitted "specific contributions at the national level" on the initiative of economic diversification based on the decision of economic diversification approved during the eighth session of the Conference held in Doha. -- SPA 16:09 LOCAL TIME 13:09 GMT تغريد
