Addressing the gathering, Dr. Al-Zayani narrated the story of the sad developments which led to the crisis in Yemen. Following the good start of the GCC call for stopping the Yemeni bloodshed and inter-Yemen war among political factions of the country, the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism came into being as the most acceptable solution, he said, adding that a peaceful transition of power followed that step in a democratic transparent process in 2012. The stunning development was the Houthi militias usurp of the power in Sanaa in 2014, he stated, leading the Yemeni legitimate government of President Abdrabbou Mansour Hadi to request the Arab Coalition, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to launch the determination storm followed by the Restoration of Hope. He gave an account on the repercussions of the war which so far left thousands deads and injured in addition to the destruction of the country's infrastructure. Al-Zayani cited that the most drastic dangers of the war as the killing, injuring and sufferings of Yemeni people, the destruction of cities and villages, launching of ballistic missiles on populated areas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, threatening sacred places, and threatening international navigation in the Red Sea. Keen on the stability and prosperity of Yemen, the GCC countries approved at Riyadh summit 2015 the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to prepare an international conference for the rehabilitation of Yemen, citing that the Saudi Commission for the Rehabilitation of Yemen, chaired by the Saudi ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al-Jaber, has started to implement a number of developmental projects in a number of Yemeni provinces, covering the health, education, roads, ports and other services. Al-Zayani said the GCC countries continued supporting the political path to settle the Yemeni crisis, and supported the peace approach sponsored by the UN in Geneva, Muscat, and Kuwait in addition to the support they lend to the mission of Martin Griffith, the UN envoy on Yemen, to reach a political solution according to the GCC initiative, the outcome of the national dialogue and the UN resolution No. 2216, hoping that such endeavors would garner international support without international intervention, and wishing the negotiations scheduled for September in Geneva every success. --More 21:57 LOCAL TIME 18:57 GMT 0035 www.spa.gov.sa/1797555
