Fire fighters of the civil defense center in Bareq province in Asir administrative region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are staunchly trying to put off a fire that has, since last night, gutted a nearly 100 sq.m. mountainous area, with no human losses reported, officials said today. Col. Mohammed bin Abdulraheem Al-Asimi, spokesman of Asir civil defense authority, said the blaze which broke out in a green area consisting trees and grass in part of Athrib mountain, located east of Bareq province, has spread to rocky and difficult-to-reach parts, at nearly three kilometers far from where the fire distinguishers could move upwards. As an alternative, the civil defense is using manual means and appliances to ward off the blaze, also spreading because of strong winds hitting the mountain. Al-Asimi said that according to the contingent support plan, the field squads were supported by a number of machinery and humans who are sparing no effort to wipe out the flare up.
