The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, expressed disapproval of GCC countries on the contents of the statement issued by the representative of the Swiss Confederation before the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, on the accusations and fallacies concerning the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He said, "the GCC states categorically reject the allegations made by the Swiss representative, ignoring the efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain for the protection and promotion of human rights in the Kingdom, stressing that the Kingdom of Bahrain has made remarkable efforts for the maintenance and protection of human rights in accordance with international standards, and in line with national laws in force. " Dr. Al Zayani expressed the aspiration of the GCC countries that the Swiss government reviews its position on this issue, and calls for being keen to get elicit information on human rights from reliable sources and not from the same private suspicious sources, stressing that these attitudes rejected by the GCC countries are not conducive to the efforts of the GCC countries and Switzerland for the promotion and development of mutual relations between the two sides.
