The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) categorically rejected the "provocative and fake statements" delivered by Ahmed Jannati, Secretary of Iranian Constitution Maintenance Council, as regards Bahrain, its leadership and people, depicting them as unacceptable and flagrant interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain and a totally-rejected infringement of its sovereignty and independence. This came in an official protest note of the GCC member states delivered by Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani to Iran's ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Sayed Mohammed Jawad Rasooli during a meeting at Al-Zayani office in Riyadh today. The GCC countries confirmed in the protest letter that Jannati's statements, which he made during last Juma'a sermon at a Tehran mosque, contradict the bases of good neighborhood, the United Nations charter, the principles of the Islamic Cooperation Organization and the international legitimacy. They called on Iran to desist from such statements that don't match with the regional and international interests binding the GCC countries with Iran. On the other hand, the GCC note expressed full support for the good efforts being exerting by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain to maintain security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain, protect national peace, enhance national unity, and proceed with reforms and progress in a way that achieves the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bahrain.
