Executive Director of the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) Nasser Bakr Al-Qahtani held here last Sunday a meeting with the delegation of the European Union(EU) Commission, headed by Dr. Johannes Hahn, the EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Expansion of Negotiations. The EU Commission's delegation appreciated the efforts led by Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, President of AGFUND, stressing the need for cooperation with it in the establishment of more banks to basically serve the poor and refugees, like banks founded by AGFUND in nine developing countries. The meeting discussed points of convergence between AGFUND and the European Union in the development area, where the two sides reached a tentative agreement for cooperation between them to support the establishment of banks for the poor, and in the field of vocational training in partnership with the Arab Open University. It is worth mentioning that AGFUND has established nine banks for microfinance and financial inclusion in Jordan, Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Palestine and Mauritania from which benefit nearly 3.2 million people.
