The Pakistani army said Wednesday that about 1,150 militants have been killed in operations in the troubled north-west tribal regions. According to dpa, military spokesman Major Asim Saleem Bajwa said that more than 1,100 rebels were killed in an offensive launched in mid-June in North Waziristan, once considered a stronghold of al-Qaeda linked militants. Another 44 Taliban fighters were killed in another operation that started earlier this month in the Khyber tribal district, through which NATO supply trucks pass to enter Afghanistan.
