A US drone killed six militants in north-western Pakistan on Thursday, officials said, as the military said it made gains in its offensive against Taliban insurgents, dpa reported. The unmanned aerial vehicle fired missiles on a compound and a car in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan tribal district near the Afghan border, an intelligence official said. "We have confirmed information about the death of six militants in the attack," the official said. It not clear which Taliban group they belong to. The latest drone strike came a day after Pakistani military said it recaptured a key town from rebels after three weeks of aerial bombing and ground assaults. The town of Miranshah in North Waziristan was one of the strongholds of militants linked with al-Qaeda. "We have cleared more than 80 percent of the town," said General Zafarullah Khan.
