AlHijjah 27, 1435, Oct 21, 2014, SPA -- Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 2 per cent Tuesday for the first decline in two days as sentiment was undermined by a stronger yen and disappointing Chinese growth data, dpa reported. The Nikkei lost 306.95 points, or 2.03 per cent, to end at 14,804.28 while the broader-based Topix index was down 18.98 points, or 1.55 per cent, at 1205.36. Growth in China dropped to 7.3 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter, the lowest in five years, and below the target of 7.5 per cent for the year, the Chinese National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday. The rate was also down from the 7.5 per cent reported in the previous three-month period from April to May, the bureau said. On currency markets at 3 pm (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 106.39-40 yen, down from Monday's 5 pm quote of 107.06-07 yen. The euro was quoted at 136.37-39 yen, down from 136.70-71 yen late Monday.
